Western Isles renewables hub to open in Benbecula next month

April 16, 2015

Glenskinno Biofuels.

Glenskinno Biofuels opened last year and inspired the Benbecula renewables hub.

An innovative Western Isles renewables hub that will showcase the latest green products to hit the market for both business and domestic use is set to open its doors to the public next month.

The result of a unique partnership between leading renewable solutions experts Absolute and renowned technical installation duo Cailean MacDonald and David Mackay, the initiative will launch at Uachdar, in Benbecula, on 2nd May 2015.

According to Absolute’s Managing Director the project, announced hot on the heels of the latest Department of Energy and Climate Change figures which reveal that renewable electricity is now Scotland’s largest source of power, will boast “working examples of state-of-the-art renewable products”.

Visitors to the site will be able to seek expert advice regarding both domestic and commercial installations, as well as get up close to understand the inner workings of systems including Solar PV, biomass boilers, a thermal/air destratification fan and full information of the wind turbines Absolute offers.

Absolute Managing Director Mark Newall said: “The Western Isles unique locale means that the residents and business owners are ideally placed to take advantage of a whole range of renewable products such as solar, biomass and wind.

“This innovative hub is specifically designed to enable visitors from across the region the opportunity to see what options are available to them, as well to seek expert advice on the economic and environmental benefits of investing in renewables.”

Open seven days a week, the decision to open the Benbecula based hub follows the successful launch of Glenskinno Biofuels in 2014 – an initiative founded by renewable solutions experts Absolute in partnership with Angus based farm owners the Gall family.

The latest Absolute project is aimed at domestic, agricultural and commercial land and property owners from across the Outer Hebrides.

Mark Newall from Absolute, established in 2007, said: “Energy costs are rising and this is having a significant impact on the sustainability of many businesses, as well as domestic bills.

“Our team of renewable experts have vast experience working with home owners and business owners alike to establish which products are most effective for them, helping them through the necessary steps from planning permission through to installation.

“Over the years we have had the privilege to oversee some of the most ground-breaking renewable projects across the country, and are delighted to be bringing this latest initiative to the Western Isles in partnership with Cailean and David.

“Our focus is to offer the local community real insight into the economic and environmental benefits of renewables, and to ensure that the process is as efficient and timely as possible.”

The Western Isles renewables hub officially opens to members of the public on 2nd May, and will be open seven days a week throughout the year.
