Trading Standards is warning consumers in the Western Isles to be wary when dealing with doorstep sellers offering tarmacking, household repairs, and the likes.
Earlier this year the law changed to give consumers 14 days to change their minds when buying goods and services from the doorstep. The seller must also give you notice of your cancellation rights and other information in writing.
A spokesperson said: “We would always advise not to sign any documentation or hand over cash to door to door salesmen. These sellers often use high pressure sales techniques and it can be difficult to get them to leave.
“It can also be very difficult to get a refund if services are unsatisfactory or if the seller has left the Islands. Watch out for elderly neighbours and if you have any concerns contact Trading Standards on 01851 822694 or Faire on 01851 701702 (out of office hours) or in an emergency, the police.”
