Am Pàipear July 2008
Fuel Campaign off to Flying Start

Support for Am Pàipear’s petition to the Scottish Government for a fair deal on the price of rural fuel has been received from far and wide in the first two weeks since the petition was hosted on the Scottish Parliament’s e-petitions website.
Signatures have so far been gathered from not only the Western Isles, but across Scotland, the UK and the world in favour of our campaign for fairer prices in the more remote communities across the country. Our campaign has been joined by politicians across the party spectrum, proving that the issue is not one of party politics but an issue that affects us all.
Am Pàipear’s petition was granted by the Petitions Office of the Scottish Parliament only two weeks ago, yet has already been signed online by more than 1,800 people as we go to press, with dozens more signing paper versions of the petition.
Am Pàipear will be taking the petition around all the holiday events throughout July, so do look out for our staff and please do sign the paper petition if you have not yet done so online.
The closing date for collecting signatures for the petition is 25 August, after which the petition will be formally lodged with the Parliamentary Petitions Committee. The petition is scheduled to be considered by the Committee at its meeting on 23 September 2008. A petitioner can be called to give evidence to the committee and Am Pàipear would like to appeal to all members of the public and to the business community who have been directly affected by the rises in the cost of fuel to contact us with your stories so that we can gather a dossier for the purpose....
