CalMac has cancelled the first three scheduled sailings of the Lochboisdale-Mallaig service this winter, citing “technical reasons”.
A three-year pilot for the run was launched last year. However, running the trial during the winter was heavily criticised when announced, and ultimately proved disastrous as the service was frequently cancelled.
This year, the service was due to start tomorrow (29th November) and run until 31st March 2015.
However, a notice posted on CalMac’s website advises: “Due to technical reasons the 0600 and 1400 sailings from Lochboisdale, as well as the 0945 sailing from Mallaig have been cancelled.
“It is hoped that the 1815 sailing from Mallaig will go ahead as scheduled, but this remains on amber alert.
“An update will be issued on Saturday morning regarding this sailing. Please check website for further details.”
Am Pàipear has asked CalMac for further details regarding the “technical” fault.
People planning to travel to Mallaig or Lochboisdale should check www.calmac.co.uk for updates.
