Scam Warnings
Trading Standards Officers at the Comhairle are warning consumers to be on the lookout for a Euromillion Lottery International letter which several consumers in the Western Isles have contacted the service about.
The letter claims that the recipient has won a share of £225,000 and asks them to forward bank account details for the prize money to be paid into. Ironically the letter contains a warning, that the claim information should be kept away from the public to prevent fraudulent acts from criminally minded individuals.
Also doing the rounds is a World Cup lottery letter which asks for simlar information. A Trading Standards spokesperson said ‘These are scams and our advice is to bin them. Consumers should not respond to such requests for information and should certainly never give personal information such as bank account details’.
