Trading Standards advise on electrical safety checks

Several businesses have been in touch with Trading Standards regarding cold calling from a mainland company who are offering to carry out electrical safety checks.

Comhairle Officers are advising businesses in the Western Isles that electrical equipment checks can be carried out by any competent person, usually an electrician, and do not necessarily require specialist safety testing practitioners.

Businesses are reminded that they have a duty to ensure that their wiring and electrical equipment are properly maintained and checked regularly.
