Making sure you’re registered to vote

The UK Parliamentary Election will be held on Thursday 6 May 2010. To be able to vote your name must be on the Register of Electors and you must be 18 or over on the day of the election.

The deadline to register to vote or to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2010. The deadline for proxy votes is 5.00pm on 27 April 2010.

Returning Officer for the Na h-Eileanan an Iar Parliamentary Constituency, Malcolm Burr, said: ‘I would urge all Western Isles residents who wish to cast their vote in this election to make sure that they are registered. If anyone has any queries on whether they are registered to vote, or about postal or proxy votes, they should contact the Electoral Registration Officer’.
