Davis not complacent after Lib Dem polls boost

19 April

Commenting after her visit to Uist, local Liberal Democrat candidate, Jean Davis said: ‘Last week was a good week on the campaign trail. The manifesto launch and launches of manifestos for the Highlands and Western Isles and the rural manifesto have given people the information they need to decide on 6th May.

‘Our poll ratings are up but there are two weeks to go in this campaign and we are not complacent. I believe we have the best policies for the Western Isles but it is ultimately for the voters to decide.

‘I spent 3 days last week in Uist and the big issues were fuel costs, business rates, IT infrastructure and jobs.

‘Rural Scotland needs a government in London that understands the concerns of our communities. Whether it is the disproportionate impact of high fuel prices, the need for locally delivered services or the threat of dwindling populations, we need a government that is sympathetic to the unique challenges we face.

‘Only the Liberal Democrats have the policies and leadership to deliver a fair future for our rural communities. Our pledges on income tax, rural fuel duty discounts, sustainable jobs through investment in green energy and IT infrastructure are being well received on the ground.

‘Our rural MPs MSPs and our MEP make a great team fighting for rural Scotland and with your support I look forward to joining them and representing you  as your MP after May 6th.’
