Stoneybridge School To Shut Doors With a Ceilidh

The eight pupils of Stoneybridge School will be transferring to Iochdar School after the Easter holidays and the school will then be closed.

For the past eighteen months the pupils have been attending Iochdar for part of their education and it is felt that this is a good time for them to transfer completely to become part of viable class groups. The pupils of Stoneybridge School hail from Locheynort, Ormiclate and Stoneybridge and their confidence in the Gaelic language will be an asset to Iochdar School.

As a final project the school has been looking back at the history of Stoneybridge School which opened in 1876 as an Evening School. An exhibition of photographs, documents etc will be on show in Stoneybridge Hall over the next few weeks. The pupils will also be working with Stella Whittle on a stained glass window depicting the life and culture of Stoneybridge community and this in time will be mounted in Stoneybridge Hall.

There will be a special ceilidh in Stoneybridge Hall on Friday 26 March at 7.30 to mark this occasion. Music and singing will be provided by present and past pupils and staff. Billy MacPhee will play for dancing and buffet prepared by Polochar Inn will be served.

Stoneybridge School community extends an invitation to all who have had any connections with the school to join them in their farewell event.
