Debut Concerts for the Scottish Islands
Chopin 2010 Continues to Enthral in Scotland

Aleksander KudajczykAleksander Kudajczyk, the Polish concert pianist based in Glasgow, has just returned from starting the Chopin 2010 year with a tour of Australia and Indonesia.

This individual and outstanding pianist is, for the first time, giving solo concerts on the islands of Benbecula and Barra – at Sgoil Lionacleit, Isle of Benbecula, on Friday 16th April 2010 at 7.30pm and at Castlebay School, Isle of Barra, on Saturday 17th April 2010 at 7.30pm.

He is performing a personal selection of Chopin pieces, including Chopin’s masterpiece, the Barcarolle in F sharp minor, the testing Scherzo in B flat minor, the famous Nocturne in C sharp minor and finishing with a very appropriate west coast piece, commonly known as ‘Raindrops’, Chopin’s Prelude No.15 in D flat major.

Chopin 2010 is a worldwide celebration of Fryderyk Chopin’s bicentenary. Aleksander Kudajczyk is playing diverse concerts as far afield as possible, taking Chopin to all points of the compass. He is performing solo concerts, collaborative ones and concerts with orchestra – often near to or where Chopin himself spent time whilst in Scotland, shortly before his death.

Since returning from Indonesia, Aleksander has already played in a Christian Aid charity concert for Haiti at Glasgow University Chapel, in Edinburgh for the European Piano Teachers’ Association and as part of the Glasgow Film Festival, a pre-screening recital, on Chopin’s birthday (as featured in the Sunday Times, Sunday 21st February).

Aleksander made worldwide headline news when he was overheard practising at Glasgow University Chapel. He came to Scotland to teach music. However, initially, he made his way by taking cleaning jobs. Now he is enthralling audiences at sell-out concerts from Bali to Benbecula and Barra and also teaching and inspiring private students.
