Early 2010 is a mere twelve weeks away. This correspondent welcomes the government’s announcement that the Air Discount Scheme is to be reviewed and strongly calls for this administration to help provide the economic stimulus these islands so desperately require by taking this golden opportunity to replace ADS with the socially, economically and ethically fairer system of Public Service Obligation.
I asked Professor Kay whether he agreed that lifeline air and ferry routes throughout the Highlands and Islands should be protected by the imposition of Public Service Obligations.
‘Yes,’ was his simple, but unequivocal answer.
