First Responders take delivery of vehicle
Am Pàipear reported on the work of Bayhead First Responders, Catriona Wright and Paula MacDougall in our August issue of last year.
The team’s busy first year has not only involved responding to callouts, but has seen them organise fund-raising events in the hope of raising enough money to be provided with a dedicated First Responder vehicle by the Scottish Ambulance Service. Their hard work and commitment meant that over £2000 was raised and the team and community are now able to celebrate their endeavours with the new vehicle having been delivered in December.
The fully equipped, dedicated vehicle means that the team no longer need to use Catriona’s private car to respond to calls.
Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan commented: ‘I was delighted to see the new vehicle delivered to Bayhead First Responders, which I understand has already been put to use on a number of occasions.
‘Clearly both the First Responders and the ambulance personnel are keen to work together in Uist to ensure that vital minutes are saved in reaching people in need.
‘I hope that the delivery of this vehicle will also serve to attract more volunteers to this worthy cause.’
