Comhairle Welcomes Beauly-Denny Decision

In response to the decision by the Scottish Government that the Beauly-Denny Power Line has been approved, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Leader Angus Campbell said: ‘This is a good decision by the Scottish Government which will help to release the unrivalled renewables potential in the Islands and the north of Scotland.

‘It is essential, however, that other infrastructure upgrades, such as the inter-connector to the Outer Hebrides, are brought to fruition at the earliest opportunity.

‘The Outer Hebrides inter-connector offers the best opportunity for Scotland and the UK to make strategic progress on realising the on-shore wind and the marine energy potential west of the Hebrides.

‘To ensure the maximisation of Beauly-Denny and to ensure progress on the Outer Hebrides inter-connector we would urge the Minister to now take decisions in regard to outstanding wind-farm applications in the Outer Hebrides.’
